Libyan students participating in a diplomacy-training program at American University, in Washington, closely followed the Arab Spring protests that sparked a revolution in their own country.

When 28 young Libyans arrived at Dulles Airport, in suburban Washington, in September 2010 to begin a program at American University for future diplomats, little could they imagine how much their own future, and their country's, was about to change.
