Theory and the Novel
In the past 30 years, especially in Anglo-American circles, theory has broadly referred to a range of academic inquiry in various disciplines. In English departments, it has become a handy term that covers any number of approaches to literature gathered under the vast umbrella of poststructuralism, including deconstructionist, feminist, New Historicist, postcolonial, and queer theories.
