  • UNT professor develops advanced forensic tool

    Dr. Guido Verbeck is developing a small-scale forensic workstation for use in military field labs, which could make the analysis of evidence faster and more accurate, giving military investigators the upper hand in the wars against drugs and terror.

  • UNT alum has a bug for bugs

    As a medical entomologist in the U.S. Navy, Michael Kavanaugh protects military personnel from infectious diseases and monitors against vector-borne diseases entering the continental United States. As a volunteer, he engages in world health education in countries like Guyana

  • Analyzing plants at the microscale

    Patrick Horn, a biochemistry doctoral student at the University of North Texas, is one of the first researchers to create a chemical map of plant cell components that will enable other scientists to analyze the lipid composition of plants in greater detail. With these findings, scientists could improve human health and nutrition as well as agricultural productivity.

  • $1.5 million Winspear gift establishes UNT opera chair

    A $1.5 million gift from the estate of the late philanthropist and arts patron Bill Winspear has established the endowed Margot and Bill Winspear Chair in Opera Studies. Paula Homer, director of opera who joined the UNT faculty in 1992, has been selected as the first person to hold the chair.
